Meet Mathew Galante

My journey out from Dispensationalism began roughly seven years prior to this writing. I had held to Dispensationalism for twenty years before that, so I’m familiar with the arguments from both sides. Along with the abandoning of the doctrine came a completely new and different understanding of the Bible. Dispensationalism is more than just a doctrine; it is closer to a hermeneutic that affects almost every passage you read. Once I realized my whole Biblical view was incorrect and why, passages that I knew began to cross-reference with other passages automatically. I realized that it’s possible to know passages without really knowing the Bible well. These new connections, among other revelations, led me to a new understanding of Jacob and Esau.

I was saved at about twenty‑two and was brought up in the Church on Dispensationalism. It’s all I knew for many years, unaware that anything else existed. All of the preachers and teachers I listened to on a day‑to‑day basis on Christian radio were dispensational. Every book I read was by a dispensational author. Eventually, I would learn here and there from those same teachers that there are “heretical” teachers who say that the Church has replaced Israel. The derogatory term often used to describe their doctrine was “replacement theology.” After fervently studying the Bible for twenty years, no one could have convinced me that Dispensational theology/ eschatology was incorrect.

I now view Dispensationalism as being akin to a virus in a computer that wreaks havoc on the operating system. Again, it’s not just a doctrine; it is a system of interpreting the Bible. This system I had adopted for so long had really hindered my ability to exegete properly. I couldn’t see it then, but now it is abundantly clear. I pray this clarity to all who made it this far. Once you see this, you cannot un‑see it.
